Scam Email Checker

Paste a suspicious message into this scam email checker to screen it for seven common red flags: urgency, credential and payment requests, risky link structure, look-alike brand domains, mismatched link text and a fake display address. The check runs in your browser and never opens links. No match does not prove a message is safe.

How to Use the Scam Email Checker

Check if an email is a scam by pasting its text or raw source and reading which red flags it matches.

  1. Copy the message text, or the full original source with headers, from your email app.
  2. Paste it into the box, replacing the labelled example, and select Check scam signals.
  3. Read the verdict and each of the seven rows to see which red flags matched.
  4. Verify any request through a contact method you already trust before you click or reply.

How to Spot a Scam Email

You spot a scam email by its pressure to act, its request for credentials or money, and links or sender addresses that do not match the company it imitates.

Phishing Email Checker

Three rows look for the pressure tactics phishing relies on: urgent or threatening wording, requests to verify a password or enter a code, and unusual payment demands such as gift cards or wire transfers. One match is a reason to slow down, and three or more matches give a High scam risk verdict.

Phishing Email Link Checker

Every web address in the text is read without being visited. The checker flags links that use plain HTTP, a raw IP address, punycode or a hidden username. When you paste HTML source, it also compares the address shown in a link with the address the link really opens.

Scam Email Address Checker

Scammers often show a trusted address in the display name while the real From address belongs to someone else. With raw headers pasted, the checker compares the two addresses. It also matches a short list of look-alike spellings of brands such as PayPal and Microsoft.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Know If an Email Is Phishing?

Look for pressure to act quickly, a request for passwords, codes or payment, and links or sender addresses that do not match the company they claim to be. This checker highlights those signs, but a careful attacker can avoid all of them.

Is This Email Phishing or Legitimate?

A pattern scan cannot prove either. Contact the company through its website or a phone number you already have, and never through a link or number in the message itself.

Can You Check If an Email Is Real?

This page checks the message for scam signals, not whether the address exists. Use the Email Checker to test an address's format and mail routing, and the Email Header Analyzer to see where a message really came from.

Are Phishing Emails Dangerous?

The risk comes from acting on them: entering a password on a fake page, paying a fake invoice or opening a harmful attachment. Reading the message and pasting its text here does not run any of its links or files.

Can You Report a Scam Email Address?

Yes. Use the Report phishing or Report spam option in your email app, and in the United States you can also forward phishing to reportphishing@apwg.org. If you lost money, report it to your bank right away.
